The Saint Seurin-Fondaudège neighborhood is a quiet, family-friendly area centered around:
1 - Saint Seurin Basilica (built in the early 11th century; chapels were added in the 14th and 16th centuries; listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1998 along with Saint André Cathedral and Saint Michel Basilica. It is named after Saint Seurin, bishop of Cologne and then Bordeaux in the 5th century.
2 - the Palais Galien (a Roman amphitheater, of which some remains can still be seen today). It was one of the largest Gallo-Roman amphitheaters in Aquitaine, a visible remnant of ancient Burdigala. Built around the 1st century AD, it was then located at the gates of the ancient city.
It is a historic district of Bordeaux, which has evolved discreetly with the city, located a stone's throw from the Triangle or the Jardin Public. The schools there are renowned. It is a district that is much appreciated.
