Interview with Carmen Milcent
General Manager, Bordeaux Cap Ferret Pyla Sotheby's International Realty
In the highly exclusive world of luxury real estate, there are individuals who embody both the high standards of luxury and the warmth of a deeply human approach to management. As Director of the three agencies—Bordeaux Sotheby’s International Realty and Cap Ferret Pyla Sotheby’s International Realty—Carmen Milcent is one of those rare individuals capable of bridging three centuries of Sotheby’s history with the very concrete reality of managing a company specializing in luxury real estate. In this interview, she shares her vision of the profession, her attachment to the regions she covers, and the central role that trust and discretion play in every interaction with her teams.
Why did you join the Sotheby’s International Realty network?
“Because it’s the only network that truly shares this vision. Sotheby’s represents three centuries of history dedicated to excellence and rarity. When you operate under this banner, you’re not just a real estate agency; you’re the local link in a global network that opens doors no one else can open. For my clients, it’s a guarantee. For me, it’s a responsibility I take on with pride every day.”
Bordeaux, Cap Ferret, Pyla-sur-Mer: three very different markets. How do you experience them?
“They each have their own distinct character, and that’s precisely what fascinates me. Bordeaux is all about rich heritage, cut stone, and history. Cap Ferret is about absolute exclusivity—a hidden gem for those in the know. And Pyla is all about energy, modernity, and the view of Europe’s tallest dune. These three areas complement each other perfectly and allow me to serve a very diverse clientele—from families in Bordeaux passing down their heritage to international buyers discovering the Côte d’Argent for the first time and falling in love with it immediately.”
Has this profession changed the way you view people?
“Profoundly. When someone entrusts you with the sale of a family home, they’re not just entrusting you with walls; they’re entrusting you with memories, emotions, and sometimes difficult decisions. That responsibility has taught me to listen, to be patient, and to exercise absolute discretion. In our world, trust and a certain humility aren’t sales pitches. They’re the foundation of everything… along with a genuine appreciation for steady, consistent work.”
Beyond Transactions: A Vision
Luxury real estate is neither a mere succession of transactions nor a catalog of exceptional properties, but a meeting of personal stories and unique places. Bordeaux, Cap Ferret, Pyla-sur-Mer… behind every address lie memories, emotions, and sometimes major life decisions, which Carmen, as Director of these three agencies, approaches with rare attentiveness and a keen sense of responsibility. In a fast-paced market, her approach reaffirms a strong conviction: true luxury is tailored, discreet, and loyal support, from the first conversation through to the realization of a meaningful project. With calm, gentleness… and firmness.
